Santa Fe Opera - Eugene Onegin

Why see Santa Fe Opera - Eugene Onegin?

A Literary Classic

Tchaikovsky's stirring and heartbreaking operatic rendition of Alexander Pushkin's Eugene Onegin is presented by Santa Fe Opera, bringing to the stage a new adaptation of the vast poetic tale first performed a century ago by students in Moscow! Directed by Alessandro Talevi and conducted by the debuting Keri-Lynn Wilson, Eugene Onegin is a dark and passionate story, full of unrequited love, heartbreaking duels and all-consuming regret.

What is the Story?

When Eugene Onegin, a fun-loving and narcissistic young gentleman, accompanies his best friend, Lensky, to the Larin Country State in St. Petersburg his life is ultimately turned upside down as he meets the modest and quiet Tatyana. Initially rejecting her advances Onegin goes on his way unaware that a mere five years later his encounter with the young girl would change him beyond repair.
