Brazilian conductor Roberto Minczuk leads a program of Smetana, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky
Join the New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of Smetana, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky led by Brazilian conductor Roberto Minczuk. The presentation includes a special guest performance by critically acclaimed violin virtuoso Karen Gomyo, who will tackle the rhythmic heights of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1.
After a pre-concert talk held at 5pm, the performance commences with Semtana's Vltava, a glorious, single-movement symphonic poem. This is followed by Prokofiev's Violin Concerto, and the evening closes with two Tchaikovsky works. His Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy draws on the bittersweet tragedy of Shakespeare's beloved story, while his celebratory 1812 Overture is a rousing, epic way to end the concert.
